A Long Time on the Web
A website that has been long established on the web tends to have more value than a newly created website. The longer a website is online and running decently the more valuable it becomes. A long standing site is often trusted more by google and the other search engines compared with a new site. Visitors also tend to trust an old established website more than a newer site.
If you have an old site then consider posting in your footer the year that your site was first online as this can inspire trust in your visitors. It helps them to gain perspective on you and your online ventures.
Having an old site should mean that many people have linked to your site over the years. This is why some people look out to buy older established websites or at least their domain names.
If you are unable to do that or decide against it then it is worth getting your website online as soon as is possible. Once it is online it will begin to gain in value as time goes by as long as it is good useful information and as long as you do some marketing.
